Preview fall

The cold spell continues in London. There was light snow fall overnight. In Canary Wharf, most of it has cleared by morning, but in Wanstead, it had created a beautiful scene overnight in the park near the tube station. They are expecting more snow this evening. It could be another Sunday winter wonderland just like last weekend.

Moving into a new environment

I've moved. The weekend past I moved from Wanstead to Canary Wharf. Not to my own place yet, but a transitional move. Lee-ean has returned from Melbourne and so we begin a search for our own place. But til then I am staying with Thean and Doris. A new chapter in London for me.

It was good timing to have moved on Saturday. It was good timing to move on Saturday. Heavy snow fell in the early hours of Sunday and we woke to a white blanket upon everything. It was beautiful. Kids and adults alike were out on the street taking photos and making snowman.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the snow lasted only one day. But midday today, you had to seek to find signs that there had been snow in London. Amazing how suddenly the snow arrived and then retreated.
To Daniel and Lydia, thank you for the memories. Though we both lived in Melbourne, we had far too few opportunities to spend time together. Living with them here has really strengthened our friendship. I know I would never have known Lydia as well as I do now if not for the shared accommodation. Thank you for opening your door and letting me be apart of your everyday life.

This photo is from Reykjavik in Iceland. At the end of January together with Dan and Lydia, we braved the cold, the wet and the snow to see the best of Iceland. The complete set of photos coming soon.

Adventure in all of us

This post is in response to Dave.

Everyone craves adventure. I believe it is in all of us. For some it invokes an image of a journey across an ocean to a place where the landscape is foreign. For some it is the joy in finding a new place to enjoy a quite moment. Adventures are big and small but only the individual can quantify its size.

For me, adventure is not a solo affair. It requires the company of others. There are many who find peace in travelling alone, but not I. No destination is complete without someone to share it with. No meal is as tasty as when shared with another. No sight is as beautiful as when seen through the eyes of many. No, adventure is not a solo affair.

After saying bye six months ago, it was nice to be back in the company of good friends. Friends where little can be spoken but alot can be said. Friends where silence says as much as words do. I miss the regular interaction with them. Seeing their faces and hearing their stories made KL so enjoyable.

People made this trip an adventure.

Beauty in movement

I've always found gymnastics interesting. Not in a participatory sense but as a spectator. The precision of their actions combined with the artistic choreography is a thing of beauty. Cirque Du Soleil is all this, set to complementary music, backdrops and costumes. The result is a visual treat and an entertaining show.

Friday evening I went with Thean, Doris and Sam to see Totem at Royal Albert Hall. Perched on the balcony overlooking the stage was an ideal vantage point from which to take it all in. Height has the effect of dramatising the aerial components.

The show comprises of short sequences, each told in their own manner but related to the theme of human evolution. Each acrobatic was different, highlighting varying skills from precision to strength to flexibility and more. Favourites were the Chinese unicyclist, the fisherman in his boat, the trapeze couple on the swing and the scientist. Of these, the trapeze duo best showcase how memesmorising aerobatics can be. There is preview clip on youTube, but you should really only watch it if you have no intention of seeing the show.

This sequence of images are from new years day in Singapore. While waiting for church, she jumped and I shot. I like the painterly effect the movement of skirt generates. In my opinion, pleated skirts are something woman people don't wear often enough. Woman that is.
